iving in Australia, I recently purchased a Nikon E200 microscope from OpticsPlanet and was most impressed with their competitive pricing and outstanding level of service. Anyone contemplating the purchase of a Nikon E200 should firstly be aware that the microscope is designed and fitted with infinity-corrected optics. This means that any future purchase of additional eyepieces or objectives must be selected from the Nikon range. Unfortunately, there is no international standard for infinity-corrected lenses; Nikon-Zeiss-Leica-Olympus lenses are not interchangeable. Conventional non-infinity-corrected lenses cannot be used. Anyone expecting the legendary quality associated with the Nikon brand will be sadly disappointed with E200. The microscope is totally manufactured in China and there are noticeable design faults and lapses in the quality control. Firstly the good news; the optical quality up to 100x is pin-sharp. Microscope w/ 3.5 inch LCD Screen Integrated 2.0 MP Digital Camera 44340 will be showcased in '08 Consumer Electronics Show. This Celestron Microscopes has an integrated 3.5-inch LCD screen for viewing subjects as well as three magnification levels with 40x, 400x, with 4x digital zoom you get 1600x along and a six position color filter wheel.

I was quite surprised by how much value I got for the price. The LCD screen is very clear, the focusing is easy and the depth of focus is better than most scopes that I used in college many years ago. I'm older now and have some vision issues in the form of vitreous floaters and begining cataracts. Looking through standard eyepieces exaggerates the floaters to where they are quite annoying. The LCD screen is wonderful and there is no trouble from the floaters at all! The quality of the images is great and the same goes for the printed pictures of what you are viewing. For the casual microscope user, especially if you have any vision problems, this is the neatest scope I've ever used. It's very well made and should give years of use. I especially like the ease of using the slide holder with the vernier position adjuster knobs. It also comes with a rigid case to protect it when not in use or for traveling. All in all I'm very pleased.

This was my first time using the LED light source vs. the higher intensity bulbs, and there was a bit of a learning curve. There are times under high magnification while using contrast that it seems as if the bulb is a bit underpowered, but once I got used to it there was no problem. I love the fact that I can charge it and use it without the cord in the way. I would say the pro's highly outweigh the cons and would recommend this scope in a heartbeat!

This is a fairly strait forward setup. Not much assembly required. It comes with cleaner papers. I recommend getting lens cleaner spray to. Most microscopes are very sensitive to dust. I use mine for studding bacteria, and the images are very clear and often breath taking. It takes a little time to learn how to focus. I wish they would tell me which objective oil works best but the manufacture has not gotten back to me on that.

The scope is easy to use even for my 8 year old and professional enough for my 12th grader. Compared it with other sites it was atleast $50 cheaper. I'm a homebrewer and I use this microscope for my yeast culturing processes. With this I can count the yeast viability and take photos all in one package. It has the capabilities of seeing Lactobacillis as well! Another great use I have for it is to verify there is no contaminants in my yeast slurry after I acid wash them for repropagating and sustaining protocols. I highly recommend this microscope for all homebrewers.
